DEATH AND TAXES

From 1913 to 1962, the top tax rate for those in the “Robber Baron” status was 92%. The average American citizen did not favor the wealthy as they felt used by them. By 1962, John F Kennedy reduced the wealth tax to 47%. In 1986, Ronald Reagan reduced income tax for our wealthiest citizens further, to 28%. “Greed was GOOD” and everyone wanted to be wealthy.

The 1990’s saw a startling expansion of Wall Street Brokerage houses and everyone started buying stocks and bonds, changing the way people saved. “Trickle Down Economics” was born, as Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich talked about investment income as the means to expand the America economy. The wealthy class would be good for the average citizen by making jobs for him.

Since that time, however, the middle class has shrunk and poverty has increased. The infrastructure of the country has decayed and there has been little to no maintenance. There are cities with no clean water to drink. Large building are collapsing for lack of maintenance.

The Champion Towers South were built in 1981 and collapsed In 2021. What caused it is still under study. Why can America not build structures that last as the Romans did more than 2000 years ago? Roman buildings are still in operation throughout Europe for houses and businesses. Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris was built in 1163. In a recent fire the roof burned off, but the building stands. The roof is being replaced.

Rome built building throught out the then known world and many are still standing and being used 2000 years later in this day and age. America is not able to accomplish this.
